Business Spotlight
By: Wayne Terminello
For 25 years, my primary business was audio and video recording at conferences and conventions throughout the United States. A typical workday found me rushing to the airport for yet another early morning trip to Las Vegas or Orlando or Chicago, to name a few. Our purpose at these conferences was to set up equipment in all the breakout rooms where the presenters would be speaking. After editing and production, the completed product would be a digital archive of the entire conference, sometimes over 150 sessions.
Well as you can imagine, that whole industry abruptly shut down once Covid hit, forcing me to ponder what I could do next to keep my business going. Knowing I am the “go-to” in the family for anything video-related, a family member called me to say “my church closed and the pastor did a weekly TV show on VHS tapes, can you convert them?” How many, I asked, “a lot,” he said. Well, it turned out to be over 700 VHS tapes! Then a friend called asking to convert her wedding video, followed by the Revere Historic Society who explained that they had a basement full of old tapes in various formats. I realized from just these few calls that a new business direction was taking shape.
I love taking people’s old, dusty video formats that haven’t been watched in years and turning them into digital formats such as USB and the Cloud that they can share with their families and friends. The joy they express in seeing people in their lives that may no longer be present and reliving happy milestones gives me great satisfaction. When someone trusts me to take their valuable memories and bring them back to life, I treat them as if I was doing it for my own family.
Having spent some of the happiest years of my life in Swampscott, I was thrilled to see “Swampscott Neighbor” magazine and felt it to be the perfect place to advertise my new services. So check your attics and basements. Those old tapes just keep degrading every year! Whether you have VHS, DV Cam, Mini DV, 8mm or Super 8mm, slides, or even audio tapes, we can bring them back for you and future generations to enjoy.
